Ramblings of an old soul
Saturday July 1, 2006
Every where you go children play their games From Tinker toys and "Pick up Stix" they play What ever game it matters not their names The children have to learn the rule bound way
In every nation it seems to always be the same The children learn to follow rules while playing Integrity is discovered though it really has no name In every language, follow the rules, they're saying
So here on the playground we find the foundation For with others in our most truthful way of dealing When we become adults the truth becomes salvation And our word is good and a hand shake is the sealing
Of any obligation to another we may ever have to make Because our integrity was learned when we were young And we learned to follow rules for rules own sake And carried to adulthood to speak with truthful tongue
So why do we find so many now who cannot follow rules When doing just the simplest things they have no care Are we just some giant throng on this ship of fools Who care not any longer to be honest in what we share
Or has the whole world of us, put our values far aside Where the breakers of the rules blame others for deeds They have done and give all the victims a free ride So future crimes against us all, we have planted seeds
We need to raise the bar and teach the truth and rules And how important it will be, for the future of us all To reinforce the value "integrity" in our public schools So honesty will prevail throughout every hallowed hall

When the time comes in ones life that they feel That life is not satisfying enough to keep The faithful bonds that were made for real The time will also come for some to have to weep
For the bonds of vows hold the strength of two Who together made the dreams of the other whole And the desire for family ties to come true When the bonds become week for life can't extol
The strength needed for love's bond to hold And some slip the bonds just enough to find That steps away from what is left is bold And satisfaction of one desire can be in kind
The stuff that romance fulfills for the passing time Lust of life that kindled the first romance as well But it is empty because the rest of life sublime Is still waiting where the first love cast the spell
And that first love that weaves its way into the heart Stays steady there waiting for the sweet to ever be What is meant to be by the vows taken to never part But to have a life long romance solid as a tree
So when the fling has to end and end it surely must The weak bond of romance should be cut sharply then And the final thoughts of another turned to dust Whereby the first vows taken, and we remember when
Can again hold our lives together and keep them strong But if any trace of the other romance is to remain Then somehow it will spark again and we can go wrong So the door has to be shut and locked so we regain
The love again that brought us to the alter that day Where for the world to see our sacred vows proclaimed And there for all to see our love was on display And now rekindled to the most and not defamed
By reckless acts that hurt the soul and crush the heart But stayed the steady course to make it work so well And put to rest the romance that could have torn apart A pure and loving family that remembers the wedding bell

When interference with a stealth habit comes along And tries to correct the inherent silent wrong The habit strikes a blow through unconscious acts That have no basis or reason connected to the facts
The love that grew before the habit took its place Is floundering somewhere in the outer banks of space And love that should conquer all that comes its way Becomes an empty shell that others see on display
Time goes on through the lives of those habit brushes With its painted shadows like shadows of the rushes And though the shadows are unreal and therefore untrusted The paint of habit that ruins lives remains crusted
On the lives of lovers who with perfect lives started Which habit ruined and left the lovers broken hearted Now one habit that controls the life one of a pair Has left the other in a life of constant despair
Wondering if ever the true love can be recaptured And hearts again can be filled with love and raptured By only one way can the true love be ever reclaimed If and only if the habit of the possessor can be tamed

It seems to me that there some bloggers on the stream that are trying as hard as they can to show that they are smarter than they really are. Some of them are doing it by the use of metaphorical expressions which sometimes are true to the basis of their writing and some are not. Rather than not using a metaphor when they can’t figure out the right way to put it they make one up. By doing so, they try to fool the reader into believing that they knew what they were doing. But, alas, the metaphor does not fit the context of the work in totem but only the previous sentence. Metaphors are a true sign of the understanding of situations and the language used to present, to the reader, the secondary or tertiary meanings of a particular thought.
Some common metaphors:
He went through that like Grant took Richmond.
That was as easy as putting a hot knife through butter.
The clouds passed by like angel wings in the sky.
The job was so hard it felt like I had been assigned to hell for a day.
Any way you get the point. When one uses metaphors, one needs to be careful that the expression fits the point being made. Anyone who owns a Roget’s Thesaurus can find lots of metaphorical references and all they have to do is look them up and put them in context. The trick is making them fit correctly so there is a mellifluence to the writing.
If one looks at true intelligence one finds two important factors. First, is the ability to think clearly. Which, by the way is difficult without a good understanding of the language used in the thinking. Second, is self testing on a continuous basis so that only the actual rather than the false comes from the dissertation. If one examines the word usage and goes to the trouble of really examining the work for contextual correctness, then the true intellectual mind will stand out like a sore thumb.

Isn't it interesting that you can tell, from how someone writes, if they are well educated. Isn't it interesting that some people will tell you how smart they are. Isn't it interesting that when someone has to tell you that they are intelligent, they usually only think they are. Really intelligent people are recognized as such by the way they are able to put things in such a manner that their meaning shines through like a bright light. Isn't it interesting that their way of putting words together allows the reader to understand clearly their intentions and their meanings. Isn't it interesting how some people try to use big words to impress their readership with their word usage, only to find out later that they used the wrong word for the context of the paragraph or sentence. Isn't it interesting that the almost intelligent who are trying to show the world that they are more than they really are, continually give their little secret away by using the wrong syntax to make a point or express an idea. Isn't interesting how much you can tell about a person by what they say about themselves in their writing. It is a sort of self complimentary commentary that would lead the reader to think more highly of the writer than the writer really thinks of himself or herself. The hidden agenda, so to speak, is to self promote. Isn't it interesting that the self promoters never seem to be promoted by others. Isn't it interesting that somehow you just know that someone is really bright. Isn't it interesting that you can see the weakness in the thought process of those who are self promoters. And, last but not least, when you look on the Mensa list their name is simply not there.
Maybe more on this subject later.
