Today was sad in a way but in another nice A vase full of roses had wilted away There was an air of sadness in her eyes When she tossed the roses out today
They were bought to make her happy And happy was the effect that day And each time she saw them a smile Came upon her face and didn't go away
The love light in her eyes gleamed When I brought the roses home to her To make her know I need no occasion It did the job and that's for sure
Now they're gone just a simple memory Of a nice reminder of my love for her So soon I'll have to get some more A sad day will come along to cure
But when all good things come to and end New delights will come to pass this way And cancel out the sadness and portend A time so happy that fills a coming day
So shed no tears about the roses tossed Because they wilted in the table vase The happy day they brought wasn't lost For memory of the smile upon her face.

To an unwed mother a child was born Into a partial family with no dad And his life will be tattered and torn
Where his mentor will be a gang member And his existence will depend on colors For he will have no father to remember
Maybe a third or fourth generation as so His grandmother was born out of wedlock And there is no grandfather to know
A destructive path that weaves a trail For troubled youth whose absent father Is too a lost life that has ended in jail
Too many lost souls from too many mothers Who have allowed themselves to be used By the reckless men and their brothers.
But the society turns a blind eye because It fails to keep its morals important And doesn't enforce its existing laws
So every year more and more of the same Of girls and boys being born to the world Without being given their fathers name
It makes me wonder if it will ever end Or if the society will falter more And not be able to reverse the trend
Or will we find a way to teach our youth The importance of family and fatherhood Or will we fail to reach them with truth
The terrible part of this is the sadness That comes from the lack of family love And our own unwilling social madness
